An old first day cover handled down to me from my uncle who is now about 70 years old. Here are some facts about World Orchid Conference WOC :
1954 - the 1st WOC was held in St. Louis, USA. the American Orchid Society, Inc sponsored it,and so grew the idea that the best and most knowledgeable orchidists of the world should meet once in 3 years to exchange their knowledge, to impart their ideas to the public and to get to know each other better.
1957 -The 2nd WOC was held most appropriately n Honolulu then at the crest of its orchid wave, and it was a fine success, for it combined availability of lovely plants with a site already famous as tourist paradise
.
1960- The 3rd WOC was held in London and the world saw the splendour of its annual Chelsea Flower Show. It was here that the Malayan orchid Society's exhibit came into prominence. The bright and gay tones of the thousands who visited the exhibit. The queue in front of the 46 foot long exhibit was 12 deep and jammed tight hour after after for the duration of the show.
1963- This success was very largely responsible for the fact that Singapore was the host to the 4th WOC which was held at the Victoria Theatero.
Singapore joined the Federation of Malaysia in September 1963 but left the Federation two years later.
2008 - the 19th WOC was held in Miami,Florida.
Are you a fan of orchids? I like these flowers but unfortunately I don't have green fingers to grow them.

Beautiful orchid stamps and postcards! I have one orchid, that my daughter gave me. It's very easy to grow, and when it blooms, the flowers last for months!
Beautiful stamps! I would have never thought there was a world orchid organization!
Orchids are pretty and I love stamps. I used to collect them.
About the only thing I know about orchids is that there are a lot of varieties and some look quite different. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there is a World Orchid Conference. Orchids have a reputation for being hard to grow and orchid lovers have a reputation for being fanatics.
Hi Vicky!.. you got pretty stamps here.. all are so lovely.. thanks for sharing & happy VTT
Like you, I like orchids, but can't grow them.
Very nice pics. Thanks!
Happy VTT
Cathy
The stamps are beautiful. I love orchids, but I would kill them for sure...so I have to just enjoy them from a distance.
Have a great VTT and a wonderful weekend.
Orchids are beautiful and years ago were the flower of choice for a corsage--do ladies still wear a corsage?
Your orchid stamps are just beautiful.. Happy VTT, have a wonderful weekend..
Very pretty - love orchids, but they die for me!!! My my my....
Really pretty.
I love orchids and have 6 or 7 around here. They put up with a lot of abuse and neglect actually.
Beautiful stamps and postcard. The colors are still so vivid.
Orchids are beautiful, I don't have a green thumb either. I think pictures of orchids are all that I can handle.
I do love orchids, but I've never owned one. I wouldn't want to kill something so beautiful. A few Christmas's ago a friend took me to meet an old fellow that has a green house of them behind his house. While she talked to him, I ran around snapping pictures.
Love your stamps and postcards. Thanks for this informative post.
I'm afraid I know nothing about orchids. They are very scarce in this country. Your cards and stamps are very beautiful.
Vicky, your postcards are gorgeous! Who knew there was a World Orchid Conference... Do you photograph or scan your stamps? :)
the orchid stamps are beautiful... I also just enjoyed your post from a couple of weeks ago with all the postcards from Europe. Happy PFF!
Howdy Vicky
Happy PFF to you .

There are some beautiful stamps they are real art!
I am real late getting out and about to everyone's blog this week. I've been out of town and have had little time to play.
I love these stamps.....and that postcard.....not sure if I love the stamps on it or the postcard itself more......lovely
Hope your weekend has been beautiful
How very beautiful. I felt so inspired by these!
I'm sorry I am coming by so late for Postcard Friendship Friday. As you probably know, our parents were involved in a roll-over accident on the freeway and are both now recovering, leaving little time for blogging. I had a few minutes just now, though, so here I am.
Happy PFF!
Orchids are the most exotic flowers of all. Regal and royal pompous blooms of the forest.
Never mind, this gives me a good idea. So let me keep you in the dark.
Vicky, I have plenty of Australian stamps. Would you like some? I'll be happy to give you with all my heart.
